DFT Ratification Procedures

When the bargaining teams from the DFT and the Detroit Public Schools reach  accord on the terms and conditions of a new contract, that agreement will be taken to the DFT Executive Board for tentative approval.

Once the Executive Board gives its approval, a mass information meeting will be held at a venue large enough to accommodate the entire DFT membership.

At the mass meeting, members will be told the details of the tentative settlement. They then are asked to vote to return to work, pending formal ratification. If passed, this vote allows school to start.

Balloting takes place at the worksite. The Building Rep conducts the vote. Members vote in secret; the Building Rep and School Union Committee open and tally the ballots. The results and ballots are delivered by the Building Rep to the DFT office. (Dates to be announced.)

The DFT Election Committee counts the votes delivered to the DFT office. Results will be sent to the schools, posted on the DFT Web site, placed in The Detroit Teacher and announced on local media.
